Protect your personal information

You may already have received emails purpoting to be from your bank, courier, web host or any number of other service providers which you may or may not have made use of recently.

This is called phishing. Phishers try to obtain your personal details or access to your computer by sending you a link in an innocous sounding email. They try to make it look legitimate but usually there are a few tells which give them away:

  • Poor spelling and grammar
  • Unsigned emails
  • Obviously fake name, eg. someone famous
  • From a large British or US bank
  • From a company you have never done business with
  • Strange convoluted links in the body of the message
  • The sender email address is from a free mail account eg. Gmail or Hotmail
  • The sender does not refer to you by name
  • No contact details or address on the email

If any one of the above is true, this should ring a warning bell.

Do not click on any links. It most likely points to a location designed to harvest your email address or upload hazardous files to your PC, or other malicious intent. You could unwittingly impart your personal details.

Please remember that all correspondence from us, UNIWEBSERVE, will be signed by us. We always identify ourselves by name. If you are unsure as to the origin of any email that you receive please contact us directly. We offer free antispyware and antivirus advice to our clients.
