It is important to have all of your main keywords in the hidden META section, as well as on your web pages. META can not be seen by human visitors, but is important for search engines. Page content can be seen by both humans and search engines.
Good Page Content
1. Contains all relevant keywords
2. Is concise
3. Reads like a well-written article, broken up into paragraphs
4. Summarise your product or service in the first sentence at the top of the page
5. No spelling or grammatical errors
6. Easily understandable by the average person
Things to avoid
1. Keyword Stuffing - this is when you try to place too many of the same word to drive up your rankings. Try not to use any keywords more than 3 times
2. Don't create lousy-sounding paragraphs for the sake of including all keywords. The text should flow nicely and be completely understandable by human readers.
3. Avoid irrelevant keywords, eg. if your website is about fishing then don't insert keywords relating to automotive parts because you want your site to show up during a search for cars. You may figure that men buying cars may be interested in fishing, but Google does not see this as relevant and will ban your site. "Blacklisting" is related to finance so it probably won't get you banned by Google, but in the interest of accuracy and to play it safe I strongly recommend using only relevant keywords.
4. Avoid repetition of information
5. Never copy content from other websites (plagiarise) as Google will penalize your site for duplicate content and you may also end up with lawyers beating down your door. Spend a little time writing your own content and you'll see that the result is well worth it! We have seen competitors knocked down in rankings for copying content from our website - it is not worth the risk.
6. Never copy pictures from other websites. There are many free online photo galleries or you can buy high quality pics from reputable websites.
